WVSO: Jefferson nabs LMCS win, Lewis title
September 16, 2007
from Scott Ellsworth, LMCS PR
The finish of the ‘Wenatchee 200’ ARCA West Q-Racing Late Model Challenge Series had Jeff Jefferson winning for the second time this season. . Garrett Evans finished second and a last lap pass by Christian Roeder gained him a podium third. Gary Lewis did not have his best race but still won his first AW LMCS Championship.
Race winner Jefferson fell back to sixth at the start of the 200-lap season finale at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval. By lap 8 was fifth and by lap 55 was third all by passing on the outside. Evans led until lap 81 when Jefferson was able to slip under him.
Even with a green-white-checkered restart finish Evans could never mount a charge on the super-handling Jefferson.
The later stages of the 200 after a scheduled stop at lap 125 had three cars locked into a battle for third. Roeder, Erick Hargraves and Brent Harris had the large crowd on their feet for the last 50-laps. Harris held third until the last lap when a slight mistake opened up the bottom for a pass by Roeder. Prior to the pass a long stretch of laps had Hargraves and Roeder locked into a side by side duel. Hargraves took fourth.
Lewis won the championship at the same track he won his second NASCAR Championship in 2006. By virtue of a large enough point lead entering the final race all Lewis had to do was take the green to win his first ARCA West Q-Racing Late Model Challenge Series Championship.
Hargraves won the ‘Port City Race Cars Rookie Challenge’ by beating Jim Warn for rookie of the year.
