Thompson Captures Second Win at Rent-Rite 100

In two starts this season with the Inland Northwest Super Stock Association (INSSA), local favorite Shelby Thompson has picked up two wins, both at Spokane Raceway Park. Thompson, the fast time qualifier of the day, took the lead on lap 20 of the 100-lap Rent-Rite sponsored feature and never looked back. Thompson also picked up the $1,000 Rent-Rite bonus as the feature event winner.
Andy Brown and Jack Morse led the way to the green flag, as the seventeen car field got underway. Brown took the early lead, as Erick Hargraves (Yakima, WA) quickly made his way to the front in the 8-car inverted field. Hargraves took over the lead with Kevin Richards and Shelby Thompson in tow. Hargraves and Richards battled for several laps before Richards slipped back to third with an ill-handling car. Thompson would make the pass on Richards for second and make quick work of Hargraves to take over the lead. Richards, a factor in every INSSA event, called it a day just past the half way point.
Rusty Webb debuted his new car, a former Montana 200 and Idaho 200 winner previously driven by Jeff Jefferson. Webb made an impressive run to an all time best third place finish in his first appearance. Andy Brown held on to finish in the fourth place position, with Darren Rupinski (Hayden, ID) rounding out the top five.
Point’s leaders efforts resulted in sixth, seventh and eighth finishing positions. Garber’s day started out eventful, as his qualifying efforts went up in a cloud of smoke. At first appearance, it looked like Garber’s day was done, however further investigation showed a broken plug in the oil pan. A little welding and he was back in the chase, starting at the back of the field.
Corey Allard qualified ninth and started mid-pack. A late race spin in turn four had racers and fans holding their breath as Allard was blocking the track with the leaders coming into the corner. He quickly got going again, everyone slowed and no damage was done.
Finishing seventh behind Garber kept him from loosing much ground in the point’s battle. Jeff Little, not expecting to race after an engine failure at the last event, was able to secure a backup car owned by fellow racer, Steve Parrish. Despite being two laps down, Little felt good about the day.
The next and final event of the season is Saturday, September 22nd. Join us at State Line Speedway for the Hooters Championship 100.
