Eller, Brady, McCarthy Saturday winners at Stateline

September 11, 2007

POST FALLS, IDAHO – Newman Lake, Washington driver Mike Eller Jr. benefited from the race leaders mechanical woes to win the 50-lap feature event for the ICAR Racing Series Saturday night at Stateline Speedway.

Eller inherited the lead with ten laps to go when race leader Nathan Fleury slowed with motor problems. Fleury, who won the A dash, had led since the green flag and had developed a substantial lead before he slowed.

Eller endured a string of cautions and delays for the win, his first of the season. Colton Garber set fast time but struggled early in the night and into the main event. Garber was involved in two separate incidents late in the race placing him seventh in the standings.

Charlie Fiorino finished second, Dan Bacon third the only two cars left on the lead lap. Sixteen cars started the main event. The ICAR Racing Series returns September 29 for their season championship race.

Pete Brady set fast time and patiently worked his way to the front of the 40-lap Northwest Pro 4 Trucks championship race to take the victory in a side-by-side finish. Brady passed Mike Wiley on the last lap heading towards the checkers.

Wiley held the outside, Brady the inside. Brady slid sideways out of turn four but managed to take the win. Carl Scheffler finished third. Tim Milligan, winner of the A Dash, led numerous laps to finish fourth.

Jason Majors, leading the points heading into the event, finished fifth in the main securing him the championship. The title is Majors’ second in the series.

Paul McCarthy won the dash an then survived an attrition filled 30-lap main event to win his first feature race of the season in the Northwest Late Model 4 division.

The race was plagued by a horde of cautions and mechanical failures. Fast time driver Jeff Smyth retired to the infield within the first five laps with ignition problems.

Lewiston’s John Jackson while challenging Kevin McKeehan for the lead, bounced off the front stretch wall, rocketing off the track and launching into a dirt embankment ending his night. Jennifer Rasmussen left the track for the pits with mechanical problems.

Nearing the end of the race, Ron Stocker and Dan Bedwell made contact in turn two sending Bedwell sliding into barriers protecting the pits ending his night.

While leading with two laps to go McKeehan dropped off the pace causing McCarthy to spin second place driver Brad Carpenter who had to slow to avoid hitting McKeehan.

Travis Allen retired to the infield to leave three cars on the track for the green-white- checkered restart. McCarthy pulled ahead for the win, Carpenter second, Stocker took third.

Next Saturday the Northwest Modifieds return for the final time in 2007 along with the season finale for the Early Stocks. Hobby Cars will also be on track. Events start at 6pm. Adult tickets are $13; kids under the age of six are free.
