Post Falls, ID - Brandon Riehl (Boring, OR) won an ASA Northwest Tour event for the second time in 2007. Both wins have been at Stateline Speedway in Post Falls, Idaho. At the end of the Access Road Solutions 150 BJ Tidrick (Yakima, WA) finished second and strengthened his hold on the 2007 points championship. Part time Tour racer Mike Longton (Moxee, WA) finished third.
As Riehl climbed out of the car he said, “I like this track. It feels like a home track as does Yakima Speedway. Last nights second place in the INSSA race helped me a lot.”
Tidrick’s comments after the race were, “We were crap and I wanted to win but second will have to do.” When asked if the championship was the important thing at this time he stated, “No I want to win. I know my Dad does not want me to say this but I want to go for the win at Yakima. I won the last Tour race in 2006 at Yakima Speedway.”
“I felt we had a good car at the beginning but I did not get a good start and ended playing catch up the rest of the night,” said Longton.
The highest finishing local driver was the 2007 INSSA point leader Dave Garber (Spokane, WA).
Riehl took the lead on lap 31 of the 150 and was pulling away at the end. Second in points at the beginning of the night Kelly Tanner (Auburn, WA) got into the back of Dan Garber (Spokane, WA) in traffic and with the ensuing long stop finished tenth and slipped from 1-point back to 37-points in third. A not so good night for Jay Sauls (Puyallup, WA) moved him from third to second in points 32 back of Tidrick.
Next up for the ASA Aero Exhaust Northwest Tour is the 150-lap season finale at Yakima Speedway on Sunday, September 2, 2007. A large field of competitors are expected to help end the turn around year for the 23-year old Northwest Tour.
