Secord gets third Pro 4 win of season
May 7, 2007
SAN BERNARDINO — Eddie Secord had planned to be in Northern California Saturday night for the opening round of the SRL Late Model touring series.Instead, because of construction delays on his Late Model, Secord was at Orange Show Speedway, driving his Ford-powered Pontiac Grand Prix to his second straight Pro 4 main event and his third of the season.
He was unable to start the other race due to a broken clutch fork.
“It was a good day. We didn’t have to adjust a thing,” said Secord, 36, who set fast time in qualifying and won his heat race before capturing the 30-lap main event on the quarter-mile paved oval.
Secord started fifth in the 12-car field because of the inversion, but moved into second when Rex Lockwood took the lead on lap 7 and drove to the front when Lockwood slowed on lap 10 with engine problems.
Once in front, Secord was able to maintain a comfortable lead until a late caution flag allowed runner-up Bryan Glidewell to put some pressure on him.
“It wasn’t too bad,” Secord said. “It was going to be a shootout with Rex if he hadn’t broke his motor and I got a little challenge at the end from the 81 (Glidewell), but I was very pleased the way the car ran. We’ll come back in a couple of weeks (May 19) and try it again.”
