Secord winning, enters SRL race at Shasta

SAN BERNARDINO — Sinister Motorsports team leader Eddie Secord gave himself an early 36th birthday present Saturday night with a victory in the ASA Pro 4 main event at Orange Show Speedway. It was the second win in three races at Orange Show and the second in eight days for Secord, who had won a Pro 4 open competition race at Tucson a week before.

Secord, who will celebrate his birthday on Monday, started third in the 10-car field, but moved into second on the first of the 35 laps over the quarter-mile paved oval, then took the lead from Yucaipa’s Tim Carruthers on lap 10. Victorville’s Rex Lockwood, the Orange Show winner three weeks ago, also moved past Carruthers for second, but never was able to mount a challenge to Secord’s Ford-powered Pontiac Grand Prix.

“We had a few minor handling problems to deal with in the heat race and Trophy Dash, but we got them solved before the main,” said Secord, who won the season opening race but was unable to start three weeks ago due to a broken clutch fork. “The car was really loose getting into the corners. We tightened it up a little and it came around. The car was good, it was stable and we didn’t make any mistakes.”

Secord’s next race is the the opening event in the SRL Late Model touring series May 5 at Shasta (Calif.) Raceway Park.
