Motorsports Consulting Services Ranks Barton #1 In 2006

December 4, 2006

Joe Barton of Kuna, ID took to the race track on 17 occasions.  He scored three wins in 2006, while earning 686 points and the number one ranking in the western U.S.

Motorsports Consulting Services followed the schedules of the Meridian Speedway Late Model Lites,  Foreign Stock Car Racing Association (FSCRA), Orange Show Speedway Pro-4’s,  ASA Intermountain Pro-4 Challenge Series,  ARCA West Late Model Lites, and the Southwest Pro-4 Series. Using a common points system for each feature event and counting each start for all the teams, a total points count was calculated and Barton and his team set atop the rankings.

Rob Powers of Meridian, ID was the only other team that made 17 starts in 2006.  Powers generated 585 points and one feature win at Meridian Speedway.

Orange Show Speedway Champion, Don Minut from Riverside, CA, rolled up 583 points in 11 starts and scored the most wins in the western US with eight.  Seven wins came at Orange Show Speedway during his run for the Championship, while the eighth win was scored at a Southwest Pro-4 Series event at Madera Speedway.

The “California Drifter” Eddie    Secord of Bloomington, CA, collected 521 points in 12 starts, and scored the second highest number of wins in the western US with seven victories to his credit.  Secord was dubbed the “California Drifter” because of this Pro-4 veteran’s well-known reputation for loading-up and hitting the highway.  And that’s just what the Garrett Doyle owned Honda- powered Pro-4 team did, scoring wins in California, Idaho, Utah, and Nevada, all on their way to taking the Southwest Pro-4  2006 Championship.

Washington state’s Wayne Dillon of Tenino came in with 483 points, one win and the 2006 FSCRA title.  Dillon won his championship by four points over John Grosvenor on the last race of the season at South Sound Speedway.

Meridian Speedway hero, Kenny Chandler of Boise, ID, suffered one of his toughest seasons to date;  but the seven time Late Model Lite Champion made a total of 15 starts to earn 449 points. The only high point of his season came when he scored his only win of the year at the Meridian Speedway’s Independence Day Cup, presented by the ASA Intermountain Pro-4 Challenge Series and All American Homes on July 1st.

John Grosvenor of Puyallup Washington tallied 420 points in 10 starts and won four times in a late season run for the FSCRA Super 4  Championship. Losing in motorsports is tuff but to lose by four points is just plain brutel but on a bright note he did win on his birthday at StateLine Stadium and Speedway.

In his second year in Late Model Lite competition, Kale Freedman of Meridian, ID, won the Meridian Speedway Championship while making 11 starts and closing the season with 2 wins and a total of 445 points.  Freedman started his season with a win, and ended the season with a win, and stayed on top of the Meridian Speedway points all year long.

Another FSCRA regular, David Callender of Tacoma, WA made 12 starts, accumulating 414 points and his first ever career win at South Sound Speedway. Calendar drove a Ford Mustang in 2006.

Rounding out the top ten was San Bernardino, CA, driver Kendall Scheidecker who pulled in 406 points and 2 wins in 10 starts at the Orange Show Speedway (OSS) and Havasu 95 Speedway.  Scheidecker was the only other driver to win a feature event at OSS.

A total of 103 race teams took part in 45 events in 8 different states, producing 18 different feature winners and six champions, along with the MCS number one ranked driver of the year, Joe Barton.

Four-cylinder Late Model Stock Car racing certainly appears to be on the brink of entering the short track racing spotlight, and this season is just the tip of the ice berg.   We know that 2007 is sure to be even better!  See ya at the races!
