Madera job search narrowing; tri-track opp. to get bid

Shepherd appears to be the favorite to fill promoter’s position at the speedway.

Stock car racer Kenny Shepherd most likely will be the new promoter at Madera Speedway. The selection of Shepherd to run the one-third-mile asphalt oval next to Highway 99 will be announced today, Madera District Fair Chief Executive Scott Sample said.

“We got the promoter we were hoping for,” Sample said.

Las Vegas, NV – About to enter his fifth year of competitive racing, Jace Meier has been selected to drive for High Point Racing as part of the 2007 Late Model Division at Irwindale Speedway.  Tim Huddleston, a past Late Model division champion and owner of one of the top Late Model teams in Southern California, chose Meier to drive in the car that track champion Travis Thirkettle drove last season.  The Ron Sutton Winner’s Circle Development Driver is excited about the upcoming season.

Teammates Brian Malone and John Mattie won the twin 25-lap main events and Harry Michaelian Jr. claimed the Stock Cars USA championship as the Orange Show Speedway Winter Series got under way Sunday afternoon. The inaugural event of the four-race series attracted 40 cars and a small but enthusiastic audience to the quarter-mile paved oval at the National Orange Show Events Center, and both the car count and crowd count are expected to increase as the series continues.
